Unblue Your Monday – VOL.21

Dated: 30 Jan 2012

Good Monday Lovelies! Did you have an enjoyable loooong PH break? As much as I enjoy the sleep-in, I had so much to plan to occupy my family. To top it, my cats were down with food poisoning – the agony of feeding them medication, cleaning up their vomit & arguing with my dad on why he can’t feed them the regular can food. The best bit, spent quite an amount of $$ over the 5 days. The pros & cons of a holiday.

Malfuf Rhythm

Malfuf is commonly used when a dancer enters or exits the stage. Like Ayoub, it is a 2-beat rhythm, but it has only 1 dom. The quickness of the 2-beat rhythm & the lightness of having only 1 dom gives Malfuf a lively yet relaxed & rolling feel.

It’s energetic enough to capture the audience’s attention when the dancer enters, but still leaves them wanting more.

Masmoudi Rhythm

The Masmoud belongs to Berber Tribe of North Africa. The ‘i’indicates something from or to do with. In this case, a rhythm from the Masmoud.

Musically, Masmoudi is interesting in that it is 8 counts long & partially symmetric. The first half consists of 2 doms & 1 set of taks. The second half consists of 1 dom & 2 sets of taks.

The length of the rhythm, its asymmetry & the combination of strong doms & light taks give the dancer lots of opportunity
to interpret this rhythm in various creative ways.
